Charleston Wedding Photographer goes to New York

Back in April I was given the opportunity to fly up to New York City to film a behind the scenes video on legendary headshot photographer Peter Hurley. The experience was great both from a creative standpoint and from a networking standpoint, and I’m glad to call Peter a friend. Russell and Angela: North Myrtle Beach Wedding

Angela and Russell warned me that when you are the daughter of a state senator, you have to invite a lot of people to your wedding. With over 400 guests, they were not joking! Their wedding was a blast up at the Grand Strand Resort up in North Myrtle Beach, and their friends took some of the most outrageous photobooth pictures ever. I also don’t think I’ve seen a cake covered with butterflies made out of sugar before either Enjoy the wedding photos below

Scott and Jessica wedding: Charleston Place Hotel

Scott and Jessica are a really cool couple from Jersey City. They decided to get married at Middleton Plantation here in Charleston South Carolina but when some horrible weather brushed through the state they wound up changing their venue to the fabulous Charleston Place Hotel in the historical downtown area. Instead of having a big reception, Scott and Jessica opted for a more personal family style dinner at 82 Queen. Ironically, after changing the ceremony site, the weather opened up and we were able to get some great photos outside on an otherwise nasty rainy day. Here is a short slideshow of their wedding day.

Back in March I was able to head out to Colorado to shoot a video of a my friend Dave Lehl who just happens to be one of the best professional snowboard photographers in the country. Erin and Ramon: A Middleton Plantation Wedding

Spring time is now here in Charleston which means the wedding season is in full effect. Many of the couples I become friends with are often not even from Charleston but they travel from far and wide to have their wedding here in town. This was the case with Erin Soper and Ramon Cestero who came all the way from Pasadena, California to get married at Middleton Plantation. It can be a little intimidating when the first time you meet a couple is on the day of their wedding. That was clearly not the case with Erin and Ramon. During the wedding I felt like we were already good friends which always helps with the picture taking. As you can see from the slidehshow, they are a really fun couple who not only have great friends but also know how to have a great time. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Kate Myers for the last 2 years since she is a wedding planner here in Charleston. So when she told me she was engaged to her best friend Grant, I was excited to see someone who deals with weddings every weekend finally get to plan her own wedding. Fstoppers Officially Launches

Well I am very excited to finally be able to share my latest project with everyone. Fstoppers is a joint venture between me and my good friend Lee Morris of www.rlmorris.com that basically features behind the scenes videos of creative professionals as they work on their current projects. The idea was first thought up during a flight heading from Frankfurt Germany to Madrid Spain. We had just finished up a destination wedding in Germany and decided to take a little vacation to Spain with our photo assistants. During that flight the idea of being able to goto one localized website to watch high quality videos of other photographers working really hit us. We love Youtube, Vimeo, and Facebook but none of those sites really captured the simple idea we had. It has taken a good while to finally have the ability to start this website but now that our cameras can take high definition video and we have learned our way around the new video editing programs the whole project has really come together.

It’s a bit scary to think how much work it could require to keep a site like this current with new videos and features so we have decided to make Fstoppers more of a community rather than just a site run by Lee and I. Thomas Yu – Charleston Fashion Week Model

Tom Yu is a good friend of mine who will be hitting the Charleston Fashion Week runways on March 16th, 2010. We teamed up together to knock out some commercial catalog styles featuring designs from Alexa Castillo out of San Francisco. I set up a little challenge by only allowing myself one camera, one lens, and no lighting for this shoot. Sometimes it’s good practice to get back to the basics and really work on composition and environment. I know many photographers who get wrapped up in the huge production of their shoots and often neglect the big picture details.

If you have never attended CFW I strongly urge you to grab your tickets now. It’s one of the most fun events in all of Charleston, and each year the production grows 10 fold. Also many events are scheduled as fund raisers for local charities such as the MUSC Children’s Hospital. And if you are fashion handicapped like me, maybe you can brush up on the latest trends ha. Last year was simply amazing; I can’t wait to see what is in store this year!

Brent and Blair’s Charleston Engagement

Brent and Blair are a really cool couple from Charlotte North Carolina. I met with them about their wedding photography a few weeks ago and we hit it off really well. This weekend they were in Charleston to make a few final decisions about their wedding on Kiawah Island so it was the perfect time to schedule their engagement session. We got really lucky with one of the best days we’ve had in Charleston this year, lucky enough for their labradoodle Ford to make an appearance. The images turned out great so I figured I’d share a few with everyone. I find that couples like to steal images for their facebook profiles as soon as they are posted online so I’m going to start updating my blog as soon as I can I know everyone is anxious to see their photos and who can blame them? These are a few of my favorite shots from the charleston engagement session; enjoy!

Good news today: my new commercial photography site has officially launched! Over the last year I have been working on a lot of interesting projects that are anything but wedding related. I now finally have a home for all my commercial and editorial work over at www.charlestoncommercialphoto.com . Of course can also reach my commercial site up on the top toolbar of this blog as well as through www.patrickhallphotography.com . Check it out if you have a second. I really enjoy the larger productions associated with commercial photography; it keeps you on your toes creatively. Charleston’s fashion scene is also growing thanks to the good folks over at Charleston Magazine and Charleston Fashion Week so I am sure you will see more fashion editorial work in the future as well.
